HighPoint Health System provides community classes on on diabetes self-management and offers a support group for patients, family members as well as members of the community who wish to share experiences and information.

Gestational Diabetes Education Program

Pregnant women who have never had diabetes before but who have high blood glucose (sugar) levels during pregnancy are said to have gestational diabetes.

Diabetes education can help pregnant women with diabetes gain the knowledge and problem-solving skills needed to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Controlling blood glucose or sugar levels can mean a healthy pregnancy for mom and a healthy start for the baby.

The Riverview Diabetes Program is taught by a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian. Topics discussed include healthy eating for diabetes, reducing complications, taking medication, monitoring blood sugar, reading labels and more.
